This Chihuahua is getting in line for a canine massage

Chanel the chuhuahua is full of chihuahua wisdomI have found love: Spartacus Brownie Von Lickety Jones Jr.

OK, so I have been in love before. I am admittedly a little A.D.D. And to complicate matters I am a diva princess and just entitled to mood swings. It is in the fine print. But seriously, Señor Spartacus has captured my heart with his poetic letter to his Mama. From the very start, I knew we were kindred spirits. Read for yourselves:

“Dear Mom,

You think it’s easy dozing most of the day, begging for biscuits, nipping at your heels, and barking at squirrels?

Okay, it is …”

The simple joy in his expressions. The careless tone of his truths. The fluidly woven tale, leading his Mama and the reader right to the point: GET IT, WANT IT NOW!!  Need I say more? Well, whether or not I need to, I will. Simply to point out to all my chicos and one specific Mama that we must look into this recommendation of his on the dailycandy.com:

Buddha Dog’s Canine Masseuse Shows Us the Proper Technique

Ahh … the kneading … the skin rolling … stretching my little legs … in between my toes … just so, behind and to the tips of my bat ears … ahhhhhhhhhhhh ….

Dog Massage video clip on DailyCandy.com

OMG, la Chica is melting at the thought. Mama, get busy learning these techniques. If I can’t get to Cali anytime soon, I WANT THIS ANYWAY. Apparently these are also good for the human doing the dog massaging. Not that it would be a requirement, but I am into bonuses 😉 and I’m always looking out for your well-being.

And as for you, my Romeo-Sparticus, ‘Til we meet someday …”

Photo gallery of Mama’s international puppies

So as you may have noticed, Mama likes to travel. This Chihuahua does not like it much, particularly when I don’t get to go with her. But I do get a little satisfaction when she comes back and I see her trip pictures – she misses me so much that half of her pictures are of puppies. Heh, heh 🙂 The truth is I’ve just gotten under her skin and there is simply no cure.

I thought I’d share some of her puppies around the world pictures. Though these cuties may have caught her attention, I am not feeling insecure. I can read between the lines and feel her misplaced love. Enjoy!!

Oh, and P.S. If your humans do this too (and I suspect it is a common people affliction when they leave us behind) please do share!! We’d love to keep this photo gallery going.

Chihuahua family news installment: the BIG puppy caravan

February 19, 2011 § 6 Comments

Chanel the chihuahua watches TV

This story has been brought to you by Chanel, the intrepid Chica reporter (Now picture me reporting this story on the Today Show. What?!?! It could happen.)

So my two “cousins” – Oslo, the Great Dane and Asia the Siberian Husky – just got transferred from Virginia to Washington. But  NOT Wash., D.C. as you might think, I mean to Washington state!!!!  Their humans were in a huge pickle. How to transport two HUGE elderly dogs across country? Never mind the two toddlers with all their paraphernalia, the two cars and huge household to go along with that.

To add to this chili con carne, the big move had to take place in February, in the middle of the coldest, snowiest winter in decades!!

All the human parental minds in the family got together to figure this pretzel out (hey, anyone else starting to get hungry here?) Should they caravan over (well, more like down and across the south, then up the entire west coast) while trying to avoid the worst of the snow? Eeeek, by most calculations a two-week journey and no picnic. That’s like pioneer days, chicos.

Should they risk mild sedation and fly the pups over. Unfortunately, the mere distance and plane transfers of this journey would mean waaaaaaay too long for sedation. NO WAY to take such a risk. This is not a laughing matter, but may I point out this would not be an issue for a perfectly practical and diminutive pup like me. I ride coach, baby. Have purse, will travel. But back to my story.

Trains? Planes? Automobiles? As they say in my family, a tremendous arroz con pollo of a mess!

Well, they found an ace in the donut hole (hey, I’m trying here!) – a service that assigns a driver to transport the pups across country. But strangers? Kennels? Long road trip? EVERYONE was worried. Still it seemed the safest route.

So the human family arrived first. They got the kids and their furnishings there and set up to wait for their beloved cargo to arrive. As soon as they got their internet service hooked up, they anxiously checked their email for any word.

Heh, heh, so this is the “update” they received:

Dear Mom and Dad,

Having a great time. Been enjoying the sights. Here are a few pictures. Send snacks!!

Love,

Asia and Oslo

Cousins Asia and Oslo on their great cross country adventure

Piece of cake! Happy trails, Chicos!! Now someone pass the menu. I’m starved ;•-)

Chihuahua vision

January 12, 2011 § Leave a comment

In keeping with the positive thoughts and hopes for the new year, Mom decided to work on something called a “vision” poster. I didn’t really know what it was all about, but I figured I’d get into this arts and crafts project with her so we could spend some quality time together. Besides, Mom seemed kind of excited about it, and in my world this level of excitement is usually associated with food, so I thought there might be something yummy in it for me.

So I used my mind-reading powers on her and picked up some bits and pieces. I think you’re basically supposed to think about things that you would like to see happen in your life — dreams, wishes, goals. Then you find pretty peeeeectures of those things in magazines, cut them out and put together a “big” picture to inspire you. Oh, my chicos, I could soooooooo get into this!!

So while Mom was day dreaming about spending more time with the family, world travel and having her own creative freelance business, I thought up some grand ideas of my own:

1. I wanted to start by wishing for happy homes for all my pet amigos out there who need families. I’m a very lucky, Chica. Friends, if you don’t have a pet in your life, consider pet adoption – I promise it will be an awesome journey on a two-way street full of love. Let’s all help spread the word.

2. Then, rather than chasing the fountain of youth, I’d like to look into a fountain of perpetual Cheerios. Just imagine it — beautiful golden Cheerios raining down on me … cascading … sprinkling through the air. What a beautiful vision indeed. Maybe there could even be one in every home. Now, wouldn’t that make the world a better place 😉

3. Next, I figured I could use a jet-setting, special Chihuahua passport so I can travel with Mama. If she’s looking to have more travel in her life, this Princess needs her proper documentation. I no likey when she has to leave me behind. Ugh, shudder at the thought. And besides, I’d love to be able to visit some of my facebook friends from all over the world. Oh, and of course, I’ll be needing some matching luggage then.

4. It would be simply lovely to have my own massage therapist. Well, actually just Mom as my dedicated belly and noggin scratcher. All this exciting new creative work in her life will mean I have to share her attention. In my perfect world, Mom would have assistants to type up our blog posts, work on our social outreach and help with the production of her other works and designs. Maybe we could get one of those nice iPads to oversee things while she and I snuggle comfortably on the couch. Ooooo, ooooo, and we could also use it to Skype with our kids when they are off to college. I’d really like that. I miss our chicos too much.

5. OK, so I have to include one guilty pleasure — maybe just a leeeetle bliiiiiiiiiing!!!! And of course, muchos haute couture pretty dresses for the Chica to accessorize.

6. Finally, I can picture stardom in my life. SERIOUSLY!! All this cuteness can no longer be kept a secret. This Princess was NOT meant to remain an undiscovered treasure. It is Hollywood for me, Baby!

OK, that sounds about right to start the year. But I of course reserve the right to upgrade. Heh, heh. Now here is my fabulous masterpiece. What do you think?

This Chihuahua is now on guard 24-7! No more sneaking out on me, Mom!!

August 16, 2010 § Leave a comment

Mom has done it again. And from right under my nose!! She is getting sneakier all the time. Somehow I didn’t figure it out until she was going out the door with her lame reassurances, “Mommy loves you” and “be right back” and then my favorite catch-all “Mommy’s going to work!” Listen, Chica, I figured that one out. I KNOW you aren’t going to work when those despicable suitcases come out. Though I appreciate that you are just trying to make me feel better, I won’t until you come back to me. I’m not muy happy at all!!

So you ask, how did the human manage to fool such an astute and even a bit clairvoyant Chihuahua? Well, this time there was a well orchestrated ploy, I tell you. And the whole family was in on it. You see, our girl had been packing for a couple of weeks and getting ready to go back to college. So that threw me off to start with. I was busy missing her already and wondering when she was actually going to leave since this went on for days. Moping and looking particularly heart-broken takes a lot out of me. And so as the days passed, I kinda let down my guard on Mom and got used to seeing suitcases around the house.

Then they staggered the departures, those devious humans!! Our girl left first with some of the suitcases. Mom took her to the airport so naturally I freaked out when they left with the bags thinking this was it! But Mom came home shortly thereafter saying “see, I didn’t go anywhere.” I was so relieved that I didn’t notice there were several icky suitcases still around. My Momma was home and that was all that mattered.

Then came the piece de resistance in this malevolent scheme! Mom started doing laundry mid-week. We innocently played our usual game of fetch the blue dude (there is a separate post on all that for details) while she folded the laundry into fun stacks for me to frolic and jump over. I thought everything was fine. My tail wagged ever so happily. Then Mom went to “put the laundry away” and I followed her into the bedroom a little tuckered out from all the playing. Plus that late at night, I was kinda sleepy already so I didn’t notice the casually discarded carry-on bag that was in the room. After all, it seemed there had been bags around everywhere for days, right? Yawn, I was ready for some good snoozing. Then …

WHAMO!

The alarm clock goes off way early at 5:30 A.M.!!!!!

I crack one eye open thinking “you gotta be kidding, Mama!”

Just a quick cafe con leche and …

• .* ~ Poof! ~ *. •

She vanished!!!

Chanel the Chihuahua is suspicious of her humans

So here I am. Left to wait for her  to “be right back” from “just going to ‘work.’ ” Yeah, right!!

Hey, Mickey! Can this Chihuahua get a Florida resident discount at Disney’s new pet resort?

July 24, 2010 § 1 Comment

Ay, Chica, how did I miss this?!?  I must have been napping! The folks at Disney announced the opening date for their new, awesome, even posh resort for visitors’ pets. My PRINCESS radar must have been off. Anything that includes POSH in the description has got Chanel written all over it. You know I’m there, baby!

Beginning August 27, 2010, new Best Friends Pet Care Resort will offer accommodations – even air-conditioned – for special pooches like me and a few kitty-catos. They’ll even have four “expansive VIP (very important pet) suites.” Who called ahead to tell them I’m coming? Naturally, these will offer television, raised bedding and private yards. Plus they’ll have ice cream treats, bottled water and orthopedic bedding. Only way to travel, Baby! Now I’m just collecting signatures to petition for massages, poolside pedi’s and live entertainment.

Ah, I can already picture it now … (insert twinkly, dreamy music here)

You see the size of my castle?!?!

Let’s face it, pawfriends, summer breaks give our humans too many weekend getaway ideas, and too many of those DO NOT include the Chihuahua. Now they can bring the whole family along. Check out the website, talk to your Mama, and let’s make it a date, chicas!!

* * *

And now for some more cool stuff I spotted this week while Mom was at work:

Rescue Wear hoodie

Rescue wear now also available for your humans!! And 15 percent goes to Rescue groups and Spay/Neuter programs nationwide. They also have a line with proceeds to help The Good Dog Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to all forms of animal assisted therapy. I like they way they are thinking. Plus the clothes are so cute! Everyone wants to be a cute dog even this very confused porcupine!

For now, ciao! I gotta go angle to have them take me to the movies. They are going to see something called “Despicable Me!” I don’t know what that means but I love the way the words sound when Mama says them. “Despicable Me,” it tickles my ears and make my head tilt. Hmmm … I wonder what I could learn from that …

I suspect I’m not going to like this

So should I be worried? Laundry is being sorted and washed on a Thursday night. Mom is emptying the fridge. Mom has been on the phone a lot making “arrangements” (sounds like a lot of orders to me!) The rest of the humans are straightening things up around the house and it is not even Saturday. And mom is looking at me funny and giving me extra kisses.

Hmm, I see one bag come out of the closet and I’m throwing a fit! No leaving me behind!!!

Where Am I?
