My Papi, el handsome Señor Coco who is also destined for stardom, recently made an appearance in South Florida and was immediately spotted in the crowd and invited to model at an event. He didn’t even have to bat those pretty eyes of his. He eeeeeez just that irrrrrrresistible! It is in the gene poolz, you know 😉
So you are surely asking yourselves, “and where was the Chica then?” Well, this all happened during Mama’s last escapade to Boca Raton and Jupiter. Yes, chicos I was left behind (again!!!) while the humans went to visit our boy at college. MY boy!!! My favorite belly scratcher who is so far away and whom I miss so mucho. GRRRRRRrrrrrrrr
Anyhow, Papi tells me that the humans were having themselves a grand ole time down there — college football game, breakfast at a lovely little french bistro, shopping with the college boy. Hrmph! Then on the last day, they decided to go to lunch at the chic Palm Beach City Place only to run into a street fair … for puppies! SEEeeee, they should have taken me along.
Anyhow, they found a cafe with sidewalk seating and settled down to dog/people watch, ooooh’ing and ahhhh’ing over the cute critters parading in their finest. My handsome Papi was on his best behavior at the cafe (that part is apparently not in the gene poolz because I am a muy excitable Chica!) when one of the event coordinators approached the table and asked if Papi would participate in the fashion show that afternoon. In his muy demure manner he consented and his human fans, new and old, were treated to an unforgettable show of elegance and finesse. Hello, Hollywood?!?!?!
I stole Mama’s phone and found some snapshots. Enjoy:

Deputy Chanel here, once again out and about on my regular neighborhood patrol. And I must say, the days here in Florida are getting longer and hotter. Ay, Caramba! Talk about dragging and panting. So to take my mind off the effects of the 80% humidity on my otherwise flawless and luxurious coat, I sometimes like to pretend I am on safari with Mom. Me, the great adventuress, exploring the wilderness … or the a rain forest (on sprinkler days). Hey, it is NOT such a stretch – after all, we HAVE had an alligator in the neighborhood pond!
I love to stalk through the “savannah” and sneak up on the exotic birds – you know, the occasional spoonbill, Blue Heron or Egret – so focused on their hunt for lizards that they don’t see me coming. Heh, heh, heh, they are awfully funny scrambling to take off when I run up behind them with my lightning speed and barking my head off – long legs, beaks and feathers go EVERY which way.
In my stealth mode I can also get the vantage position on the “great cats” of the southeast – OK, so here they are mere house kitty catos with attitude. But like their greater cousins, they often lounge on the “open plain” (driveways) baking in the warm sun. They are muy silly and sleepy so I can spook them and make them scram. Just like the silly squirrels that I catch snacking on their buried nuts. I like to stand between them and their tree and watch the little wheels turning in their nutty heads as they try to figure out how they’ll get around me to scoot up to safety. I am such an imposing adversary.
But mostly, on our excursions, Mama and I focus on the flora rather than the fauna. This week we have the Crepe Myrtles blooming all over the neighborhood along with some stunning lilies. The beauty of Nature never ceases to amaze.
Ciao for now, chicos, ’til our next great adventure! And Happy Saturday Pet Blog Hopping!

On last night’s walk, well, let us just say I didn’t behave very well. It all started out great when I got to see my favorite peeps – Skitch and Gen. It was a treat to be out there for a walk at the same time. Our humans all have different schedules so that doesn’t happen very often. We said hello, sniffed each other all over, and did mucho tail wagging. The puppies, that is. It was good to catch up.
But then things started going downhill when I started getting antsy and pulling away at my leash while Mama tried to have a conversation. That woman can talk! And it all sounds like blah, blah, blah to me anyway. Geeez, what could they possibly have to go on and on about for sooooo long. It was prime walking time!
So I started to tug and whine … tug and whine … tug and whine. A winning combination :•-) or at least usually effective. Well, this WAS meant to be a walk, Madre!
Next, I actually managed to pull the leash out of her hands and broke away when I saw another Chihuahua. Mighty beast that I am, sometimes I forget my own strength! Well, I just had to go say hello. Mama however was not happy. She squealed and came running after me.
Then I unfortunately ran into some of the bigger dogs in the barrio. And as per usual I got a little defensive. OK, OK, so I started barking uncontrollably. Mama said it sounded both like I was trying to eat them alive AND like I was being stabbed. By this time, she was mumbling things that didn’t sound very nice and tugging at me!
But just as she was about to give up on me and this outing, I saved the day. We were rounding the corner to head back home, when I saw it! My chance to get back in Mama’s good graces. I spotted a pretty gift for her and tugged her (gently) right over to it.
She smiled. We brought it home.
I got lots of love. Even Tigger liked it. And as they say, they lived happily ever after 🙂

My mama is muy Cuban, but she is not a big spanish soap opera fan. I’m not sure if she was traumatized in her youth having to watch all of her abuela’s favorite novelas. Or if it is because life in this family is enough of a soap opera at times, so there is no room for more exaggerated drama in her life.
However, even she will admit that we have fallen in love with that El Monterey novela-style commercial
series, “La Hacienda.” FABULOSO! Move over, Telemundo. We can’t WAIT for the next episode.
My favorite dramatic moments so far are:
“Hija, you were sweeeetched at birrrrth … [long pause] … but eeeet was only for a second, and then they sweeeetch you right back. Let’s eat!”
“Fah-therrrrrrr, you cannot keeeep us apart! … No, no, son, eeeez OK. She eeeez hot! Now, let’s eat!”
Heh, heh, heh, they put in all of the best ingredients for a fabulous chica fiesta – the fiery tempers and tempestuous relationships … those soulful, significant looks (these make for awesome close-ups) … there are new relatives showing up at every turn … ahh, there’s lively, dance-y music … and in the end, mucho good food! “Let’s eat,” indeed!
So today, Mama and I looked them up on Youtube to we could share it with the familia, and it turns out that they have a WHOLE channel – http://www.youtube.com/user/Elmonterey – Yippee!!!!! – there is even a bloopers reel. Well, I just had to share it with you too, my chicos. So grab the chips and salsa, sit back and enjoy! Ole!!
And as usual, on this beautiful spring Saturday, have a happy pet blog hop.
