Mami (that’s her on the left) always said, “my leeetle chica, remember to stop and smell the flowers.” Great advice for everyone. Then again in my case, I have to stop anyway to climb over or run around most of the flowers that happen upon my path. I have low clearance issues. But we won’t go there.
Now, my human mom like most of the chicas in our family, is an admitted shutterbug — you may have noticed she loves taking my picture. It can get on one’s nerves at times, but love does overcome. Anyhow, back to my point, what my human mom and I love even more is taking a good look around when we are out and about and spotting the amazing little things that happen every day — the details that often go unnoticed but are what make our world such a beautiful place.
So we thought we’d bring the camera along on our walks now that the weather is getting a little nicer so we can capture some of these small miracles. This could be mucho fun. From my particular “point of view” that usually means I get an up close and personal glance at some curious things. And if I should end up in a picture or two, well, all modesty aside, the chica will be more than happy to do my part and lend my beauty (heh, heh) to nature’s great masterpiece.
So here’s our first one. We’ve titled it:
Just for you, Mami!

This past Labor Day weekend Mom and I took some time off from the blogging, and the facebook and the twittering. I missed all my friends from the digital world, but I had lots of quality time with Mom and the family. And what I didn’t miss was Mom’s time away from me when she has to go to work. Barbecues are fun, but you have to love THAT about a holiday.
Hey, I do realize as much as I’m always lobbying for Mom NOT to go to work, she does have to have a job. After all, how else would she be able to keep me in the lifestyle this Chihuahua had become accustomed to – the toys, the treats, the pedis, and the pretty clothes I let her put on me just so I can wiggle out of them and tear them off and then thrash and obliterate them. All in a very dignified fashion, of course. But I digress.
See it is bad enough that Mom does have to go to her job so much, but occasionally Mom also has to get some work done at home. But what about precious Chihuahua time, you say?!?!? I know, I used to ask that all the time. I can’t live so love deprived!
But then Mom and I came up with a new business model, a happy compromise if you will, for when she does have to be on the computer here too. Actually, I proposed this nice little arrangement so I can make up for some of the lost lap time. For the “home office,” I’ve promoted myself to office decorator, managing editor, and chief of staff. I get to make sure I get primo office space – in order of appearance that means Mom on the couch topped with a fluffy cushion, precious me next and finally the laptop. A very ergonomic and feng shui layout – at least for me – it is muy comfy for my back and my belly. Then from my perch I get to oversee all of her work and share my humble opinions – all of them right, of course. And best of all I get to decide when it is break time (aka, treat time!) On this I am what you call the enforcer. It is for her own good too.
Plus I must admit the perks that come with the job aren’t bad either. The laptop helps generate lots of extra heat to keep the lap AND my belly nice and warm. I get to check on my peeps on facebook between things. And with every coffee sip for mom, come belly scratches for the Chihuahua.

I have a HUUUGE problem here, amigos. Mom has brought in a heinous new contraption to the casa. She calls it the ” ‘spresso maker.” I call it the cranky dragon in my kitchen. Much like the evil vacuum in our “coat closet” (I giggle at that every time because we live in Florida so there isn’t much point to that!) … anyhow, this despicable little black gizmo makes mucho noise. It spits and hisses like it is going to eat my Mommy. And Mama just stands there, like she is totally unaware of the peril she is in! But I am the Chica in charge in these here parts, the chief security officer. And I take my job muy seriously. So I do mucho growls and warning yips and sometimes even full-out ferocious and very intimidating barking when it starts to act up.
But my problem is, that as you all know, “coffee time” here in Casa Chanel is a very special time. It is part of my morning ritual with Mom. We wake up, I get lots of love. She announces it is time for cafe and that is always followed by my CHEERIOS. I can’t mess with that!
So what IS a Chihuahua to do, I ask you? It is my prime imperative to defend my home and my Mama against evil invaders. But then there are my morning Cheerios to be considered here. I am perplexed in this crisis. Torn. Paralyzed with indecision in my impossible dilemma. I better go sleep on it.
