Deputy Chanel here, once again out and about on my regular neighborhood patrol. And I must say, the days here in Florida are getting longer and hotter. Ay, Caramba! Talk about dragging and panting. So to take my mind off the effects of the 80% humidity on my otherwise flawless and luxurious coat, I sometimes like to pretend I am on safari with Mom. Me, the great adventuress, exploring the wilderness … or the a rain forest (on sprinkler days). Hey, it is NOT such a stretch – after all, we HAVE had an alligator in the neighborhood pond!
I love to stalk through the “savannah” and sneak up on the exotic birds – you know, the occasional spoonbill, Blue Heron or Egret – so focused on their hunt for lizards that they don’t see me coming. Heh, heh, heh, they are awfully funny scrambling to take off when I run up behind them with my lightning speed and barking my head off – long legs, beaks and feathers go EVERY which way.
In my stealth mode I can also get the vantage position on the “great cats” of the southeast – OK, so here they are mere house kitty catos with attitude. But like their greater cousins, they often lounge on the “open plain” (driveways) baking in the warm sun. They are muy silly and sleepy so I can spook them and make them scram. Just like the silly squirrels that I catch snacking on their buried nuts. I like to stand between them and their tree and watch the little wheels turning in their nutty heads as they try to figure out how they’ll get around me to scoot up to safety. I am such an imposing adversary.
But mostly, on our excursions, Mama and I focus on the flora rather than the fauna. This week we have the Crepe Myrtles blooming all over the neighborhood along with some stunning lilies. The beauty of Nature never ceases to amaze.
Ciao for now, chicos, ’til our next great adventure! And Happy Saturday Pet Blog Hopping!

As promised, I just wanted to share few snapshots from the Paws for the Arts event I attended today here in St. Petersburg, Florida. It was a fundraiser for the arts program at the Canterbury School not far from home. Mama designed the t-shirts but I had fun getting creative and meeting some other pawrtistes. Check me out as I create my own impressionist masterpiece. I’ve titled it, Eat your heart out, Mr. Monet!

We had ourselves an impromptu neighborhood association meeting during today’s walk. And who can blame us. We can’t resist the urge to share the latest gossip.
And now for the board minutes:
Have you seen Mr 1876’s new landscaping? Muy nice. I can’t wait to “explore” all over that flower bed!
Did you hear that Mr. and Mrs. 1745 have a loose board on their backyard fence? We can go visit Jesse anytime and no one will know! Partyyyyy! I’ll bring the Cheerios!
Yeah, the bunnies have been looking for a yard to nest in again. Be on the look out! A whole bunch of them jumped out of the ground all of a sudden the other day and almost gave me a heart attack!
There have been various reports by the neighborhood watch committee about the pesky squirrels getting a little rambunctious lately. Maybe it is the spring, maybe it is the pollen. Do you guys have your despicable squirrels under control? Ours have gotten a little brazen lately. They’ve been throwing acorns down at me from the roof. Why I oughta …
Hey, did you guys notice Fluffy the poodle’s new hair do? No, don’t stare!! Ah … rather unfortunate, I’d say. And this humidity is not helping. But thankfully, it will grow back out 😉 No, just wave and smile like everything is OK.
Ciao, bellos. Same time tomorrow then.
Whoops, how could I forget! Happy Saturday Pet Blog Hop!!

What? Nooooooo, I wasn’t going to do whatever you THINK I was going to do. I’m pure and innocent as the driven snow. Of course as a Florida girl I have technically never seen snow, driven or otherwise, so I’m not sure just how innocent I need to be. But how much trouble could this little chica be? Besides, I am the spice of your life, Mom. So every once in a while, just look the other way ;•-p
Mucho keeesses to make it all better! You know you can’t stay mad at me.

So Mama and I are admitted moviephiles/couch potatoes. The thing is that we love to curl up on the sofa with a bowl of snackies to watch a good movie. And now that our girl is off to college, well Mom and I are best movie buddies. The boys just don’t get that much into this like us Chicas. We are simply suckers for romantic comedies. We’re love being on the edge of our seat watching a good mystery. We boo-hoo shamelessly through period pieces. And well, we can’t resist putting on a lively performance of our own during musicals. Of course I must confess I don’t really get all that is going on in the movies, but I totally understand my Mama and when she is happy I’m happy.
I’d say most of all, we love epic fantasy and adventure. From Harry Potter to Lord of the Rings to STAR WARS, we could (and do) watch these movies over and over again. We ARE the biggest fans EVER!
It about killed me when Mama went with the kids to that new Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando and couldn’t take me. I’ll never understand why are pets not allowed We’ve written to Mr. Universal about the issue and expect special dispensation any day now. I mean, Mama brought home Harry Potter wands, a time-turner, Hedwig and Norbert the dragon puppets, Butter Beer mugs, Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans, some yummy fudge flies and even a rain poncho since it happened to pour while they were there. I may not know what any of those things are really about but I DO know shopping. Imagine if I had been there to shop too!
Well today, one of Mama’s coworkers shared a link to these new Star Wars bobble heads! Heh, heh, I thought we Chihuahuas had the corner on the adorable bobble heads market but … Ohhhh … thaaaaa … cutenessssss!!!!!!!! Mama says I even look a little like the Yoda one. I think he is the cute little green guy. Heh, heh, “check them out, you must!”
Let’s see, we need one for Valentines Day and one for Easter. Then there is Mother’s Day and Mama’s Birthday shortly there after. One for Fourth of July (and why not, there was plenty of Rebel spirit and all that aboard the Millenium Falcon); these would certainly be better than candy for Halloween; and well, it is never too soon to start Christmas shopping. Seven fab gifts for Mama and I. Let the Force be with us.
To all my friends and family let me just say:

Just wanted to share a little more Halloween fun. It seems everywhere I look there is a pet costume contest, or animals the world over having Halloween fun. So here are some of my favorites this week:
Also from Tampabay.com, Reader pet photos (be sure to check out “Jjackie Sparrow”! Rrrrrrrrr, muy handsome!!)
So get out there and have mucho fun!! Hey, it is an awfully fun excuse for a walk. And if you’re in my neck of the spooky woods, be on the lookout for a short but terribly terrifying beastly ghoul 😉 Heh, heh, I might just run into you. Boo!!
