Review: Eukanuba specialty food for Chihuahuas

As this Chihuahua’s owner/mom, I’ve always been pretty steady with the dog food I choose to give Chanel. All reported tidbit and snacks aside, we take great care of our tiny dog’s digestive well-being. It is a sad day around here when on occasion, our intrepid chica gets into something she should not eat and mopes around with a sore tummy. Breaks your heart.
Recently we were offered the opportunity to try out Eukanuba’s new Chihuahua Formula, and since Chanel has done well on Eukanuba since she was a puppy, we did not hesitate to test the new food.
The dry food packaging falls right in line with their well-recognized brand, showcasing an expressive Chihuahua. In my opinion, these dogs are seldom short on personality so they couldn’t go wrong there. And the sturdy package is easy enough to open.
But more importantly, the formula has been designed with specific issues that tend to affect this breed – joint problems, weight control and sensitive digestive systems. As an owner of a Chihuahua, I can say these mini canines have no concept of their size and often defy their limitations without hesitation. They have great heart, if not such great strength, so finding a dog food that specifically supports their bones and joints is a must.
From the Eukanuba website, the ingredients list guarantees no fillers, and I like to know that the ingredient list is simple and focused on her health. Chicken and added sources of vitamins are the main components.
In the end, Chanel gave her new Eukanuba Chihuahua Formula the best testament herself. I know she is happy with her meal when she gets a little wacky and plays one of her favorite games with her food – the “toss and fetch the ‘treat’ ” game – showing she was excited and approved of the new fare.
I may be on a diet, but I’m gobbling up the love this Thanksgiving!

I might concede that my waistline is NOT what it used to be. And yes, I’ll even take my vet’s advise and incorporate “mature” (because “senior” is NOT in my vocabulary) dog food and extra walks into my lifestyle. But having both of my kids home from college for Thanksgiving this week, I’m definitely going to blow my cuddle calorie count. And so it begins …
Yesterday, my girl arrived from K.C. and I had a total melt down!! Mama and Pops have been trying to prepare me. They kept mentioning her name in their conversations: “Blah, blah, blah, blah, Danielle. Blah Danielle blah blah blah. Blah blah Dani. Blah blah blah …” You know how the humans can talk. And trust me, the Chica did not miss a beat! Every time I heard her name I looked up, used my high-tech scanners to survey the premises and did a snifer dog reconnaissance to see if I detected any arrivals at casa Chanel. But unfortunately, there was nada. Just a lot of talk. And so it was for the past couple of weeks.
So it DID sneak up on me when she materialized right before my eyes yesterday! Mama left with her usual “Mama’s got to go to work. Be right back” which I don’t ever buy, even for a minute. So I settled for my nap, ahem, I mean my trusty guard shift on the back of the couch when … BAM!! She walked back in 30 minutes later with … my girl. There was LOTS of screaming, on all out parts. And LOTS of wiggling and squirming and rolling over almost fainting with excitement, on my part 🙂 “Oh, happy days .. are here agaiiiiiiin … oh, tra-la-la … and cha-cha-cha!!” I was so giddy last night I could not decide which bed to sleep on. So it was musical beds most of the night for me, and not much sleep most of the night for Mama.
And now I’m hearing a whole lotta “Ryan” talk too!!! Be still my corazon!! I just KNOW he’ll be here soon. My bestest belly-rubber too!! I am going to explode :•-) with puppy happiness. My tail will surely wag right off my butt!
So what if I’m OK with not partaking of too much of the turkey nibblets per Dr. B’s orders. You can all have it. La Chica CAN live on love alone (and a few carrot sticks.)
Happy Thanksgiving, Amigos!! Love your loved ones and let’s be grateful for all the blessings in our lives.
Like Papi, like daughter

For those who can’t understand my love (OK, make that OBSESSION) with my favorite toy, I can only say it is a complicated relationship.
I love him, even though I can’t stop gnashing my teeth at him or stop the urge to pound him.
But truly I can’t live without him, and I cry woefully if my chico falls and slips under the couch. Just ask Mama. I make her move all the furniture to rescue him from the dust bunnies.
Yet, I live to tear at him and his crazy blue hairs and bite him with mucho gusto.
He is my sidekick, even while he is also La Super Chica’s ultimate Nemesis, the Blue Blur.
So how can I explain this love-hate relationship? Well, I could just say that it is a chica’s prerogative to be fickle. But the truth is it seems to be in the gene poolz. Proof? Meet my Papi’s Flea:
It is very much the same for them. Papi brings Señor Flea over to visitors and begs them to play with him. Then he growls and tears him up. He loves to play tug-of-war with the hairy beastie. Throws it up in the air, catches it in his powerful fearsome jaws and shakes the stuffing out of it. Papi even tries to drown Señor Flea in the pool. Mama says she had to fish it out of the pool filter, all soggy and full of water bugs, the last time she was visiting. But if ANYONE tries to mess with Papi’s Señor Flea, WATCH OUT for the ferocious defender my mighty Papi will turn into!
So yes, in this familia we make inseparable if unlikely amigos. Magnifico duos! We are passionate chihuahuas, slaves to the inexplicable attraction to opposites. For me, I can’t help myself, and besides, I don’t want to. Banzaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, chicos!!!
