My mama is muy Cuban, but she is not a big spanish soap opera fan. I’m not sure if she was traumatized in her youth having to watch all of her abuela’s favorite novelas. Or if it is because life in this family is enough of a soap opera at times, so there is no room for more exaggerated drama in her life.
However, even she will admit that we have fallen in love with that El Monterey novela-style commercial
series, “La Hacienda.” FABULOSO! Move over, Telemundo. We can’t WAIT for the next episode.
My favorite dramatic moments so far are:
“Hija, you were sweeeetched at birrrrth … [long pause] … but eeeet was only for a second, and then they sweeeetch you right back. Let’s eat!”
“Fah-therrrrrrr, you cannot keeeep us apart! … No, no, son, eeeez OK. She eeeez hot! Now, let’s eat!”
Heh, heh, heh, they put in all of the best ingredients for a fabulous chica fiesta – the fiery tempers and tempestuous relationships … those soulful, significant looks (these make for awesome close-ups) … there are new relatives showing up at every turn … ahh, there’s lively, dance-y music … and in the end, mucho good food! “Let’s eat,” indeed!
So today, Mama and I looked them up on Youtube to we could share it with the familia, and it turns out that they have a WHOLE channel – http://www.youtube.com/user/Elmonterey – Yippee!!!!! – there is even a bloopers reel. Well, I just had to share it with you too, my chicos. So grab the chips and salsa, sit back and enjoy! Ole!!
And as usual, on this beautiful spring Saturday, have a happy pet blog hop.

Mama thinks there might be something wrong with my tongue. It seems there is a switch – the one that turns on when my tummy gets scratches – which gets stuck in that on position.
Once she starts to scratch my belly and I start to tip over sideways in utter contentment … ahhhhhh, I just can’t stop kissing on her. Kiss-kiss-kiss-kiss-kiss … the Energizer bunny has nothing on me. I could go on like this forever! From the human perspective, of course, it looks and feels more like lick-lick-lick-sluuuuuuuurp-lick.
So eventually she says, “yuck. Stop it, Chanelly, I am not a lollipop!” Lollipop? I have no idea what you’re talking about. I assure you I’m not thinking that. From the puppy perspective, it feels more like savoring a delightful tender slab of prime steaky. Both fine delicacies one can easily confuse 😉
But seriously, there is no “malfunction.” I admit lose focus in my state of belly-sctatching ecstasy. In my defense, I say she just gets sweeter with age and I just can’t get enough of my Mama. Sorry, Chica! No exchanges, no refunds on chihuahua merchandise. Just love.

Mama woke up this morning saying, “Easter is not as much fun now that the kids are all grown up! Sigh …” So while she went to make coffee and some breakfast, I went off quietly to make an Easter something hunt just for her 🙂 I can be sneaky that way.
* * *
And later that morning …
Oh, Mamaaaa … You getting up? Where are your slippers? They were just there? Hmmmm … 😉 No, I don’t have any idea how they ended up in that planter.
Hmmm, where DID you leave that book you were reading? What? Under the bed? Now, how did that happen?
Your reading glasses? Geez, I have no … Oooops, imagine that. In my bowl. Go figure!
What’s that? You can’t find the TV remote? Let’s see … wait, what is that sticking out from under the couch? Goodness me.
Heh, heh, nooooo, I haven’t seen the cat in a while either. Do I hear some muffled sounds coming from the hamper? Ahhh, maybe …
Oh, and the Cheerios? (Looking at her with a straight face 🙂 as she walks towards me.) You are getting hotter … now hotter … really HOT! Ahhh … (burp!) … yup, they are in my belly! Scratchy, scratchy, please 🙂

Later, after a good long snuggle session with all favorite peeps …
I’m thinking, nope, that Easter bunny is not the only one that knows how to have fun with the humans. Happy Easter!!

So as you may have noticed, Mama likes to travel. This Chihuahua does not like it much, particularly when I don’t get to go with her. But I do get a little satisfaction when she comes back and I see her trip pictures – she misses me so much that half of her pictures are of puppies. Heh, heh 🙂 The truth is I’ve just gotten under her skin and there is simply no cure.
I thought I’d share some of her puppies around the world pictures. Though these cuties may have caught her attention, I am not feeling insecure. I can read between the lines and feel her misplaced love. Enjoy!!
Oh, and P.S. If your humans do this too (and I suspect it is a common people affliction when they leave us behind) please do share!! We’d love to keep this photo gallery going.

So there I was, minding my own business and keeping a vigilant eye out for the gator threatening our otherwise peaceful neighborhood, when instead I spotted the dastardly squirrel. One of the evil rats with bushy tails that have taken residence in the big oak tree in the front yard.
But then, when I barked my objections at her intrusion on MY yard, she just looked at me with careless disregard! Like she had no worries at all – as my Mama would say, like “Pedro por su casa.” That despicable fiend just proceeded to munch on her acorn as if I was not there!
Then as I continued to bark my head off at the blatant disrespect, she casually sauntered across the front walk and climbed up on a small tree we have near the front door. But mind you, this was not an attempt to get away from my great fierceness as she should have, amigos. No, rather it seemed this was just an attempt to get a better look at me through the window. Ooooooo, it was infuriating of her to just stay there looking down at me as if making up her mind about whether or not I posed a threat. Hrmph!! How dare you?!?! I’d tear your fluffy tail to pieces, Chica!
Can you say, “here, gatah, gatah …” Oooo geez, it would be a shame, nay, a tragedy if that big ole alligator were to show up and … snap! We’d see who was laughing then. I might be stuck inside and presently unable to get you, but I’d be safe and sound from Señor Gator. Grrrrr … it would serve you right, you shameless pest. Now, get off my lawn and show some respect!!
My daddy says maybe the squirrel wasn’t taunting me. Maybe she just confused me for a fellow squirrel and could not understand the strange language I was speaking. Oh, daddy!

For those of you who sometime envy la Chica and her leisurely life here in sunny Florida, I am here to tell you, it comes with certain risks! Mama was going off to work today when she spotted this little message casually posted on the community announcement board:
What, no “don’t speed and be careful over the new ‘speed bumps'”? Or “watch for children at play and other ankle biters”? Or, “don’t forget trash day is Thursday but be sure to look under your cars for unusual “yard stuff'”?
Sure, “next board meeting is on April 25th and top of the mornin’ to ya”?! Right?!?!?!?!? Helloooooooo! We are talking ALLIGATOR!! I say they’d BETTER get that trapper out here and PRONTO!!!
You see, we have a small pond in the neighborhood and several in the immediate area. And I guess spring IS the season for love even in the alligator world. So this is the time of year for a lot of gators “sightings” as they are on the move professing their love for one another. Funny thing about Florida though, is that a gator has to become a “nuisance” – that is get big enough (hmmm … I wonder eating what?) AND “threaten” residents or pets – before a complaint can be taken seriously enough for the authorities to send a trapper.
“Seriously” enough?!?! This is an “Eeeeek,” “Ay Caramba!” and “Help! Get me outta here!!!” all combined moment if there ever was one.
So yeah, I don’t know about the rest of my peeps around the ole barrio, but I think until further notice me and my Cato will be sunbathing safely just inside of that lanai sliding glass door. Thank … you!!
P.S. Happy and SAFE Saturday Pet Blog Hop 🙂 And to quote another famous chica, “There’s no place like home … There’s no place like home … There’s no place like home … ” Stay safe, amigos.
